6 Reasons Why You Should Learn English for the Future (You May Be Surprised)
Hello, my name is Ikhsan Ramadhan, you can call me Ikhsan. I am 15 years old. I studied at Al Irsyad Al Islamiyyah Senior High School Purwokerto. I’m in 11th grade now. On this occasion, I would like to present an article with the theme “Why English is very important for your future”. I will also answer questions about why English as a second language will be one of the success factors in the future. Okay, let’s get started!
First of all, I would like to recall the very well-known slogan that I quoted from the website of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia which reads “Put the Indonesian Language First, Preserve Regional Languages and Master Foreign Languages”. From this slogan, we can conclude that mastery of foreign languages is very important, and as we know the most widely spoken language in the world is English, so we need to master English to compete with other people from all countries in the world.
Before we get into the content of the main topic that we will discuss, I will tell you my experience when I was in elementary school and junior high school. At that time, my parents and I thought that English was a very important language for my future, for me to enter university, and also for me to find a job, even if I wanted to go abroad for vacation or study or work. I can master English first because English is an international language that will certainly be used wherever we go. Therefore, my parents took me to an English tutoring institution in Indonesia. And finally, I took an English course from the 2nd grade of elementary school and I continued to junior high school. I enjoy my time learning English, and the English course helps me to deepen and understand English better. By the way, because I took an English course, my grades in elementary and junior high school went up and I got good grades, I was very happy at that time.
First, I would like to first review and answer the question why English is so important for our future is because English is the language of the International Union and is most often used by foreign language speakers around the world. When people of different languages get together, they generally use English to communicate with each other. In addition, mastering English can also strengthen your value in the eyes of others and will also be more appreciated in the international world of work.
Second, I want to talk about education and science. English is very important because it is the language of science. And if a nation or individual wants to master the language of science, of course, they must master English. And also, at this time there are many sources of learning materials both from books and internet media that use English. By mastering English, we can increase our knowledge from these various sources, and of course, we don’t have to bother using a translator.
Third, if we look at it from a humanitarian perspective, especially in the United States, speaking in English opens the opportunity for an individual to be free from social discrimination such as differences in ethnicity, skin color, background, and even religion. I quote from the United Nations website that there is still a lot of discrimination and racism in the world. So, we need to learn English so that our self-esteem can increase in the eyes of others and the world.
Fourth, I will discuss in terms of technology, currently, all the latest technology gadgets and devices use English as the main language and provide instructions for users. If we master English, then we will understand technology from these gadgets faster. Even with any new technology, we will master it faster than the average person. Maybe we ask why English is used in all the latest gadgets or technology today. The answer is because English is the most widely spoken language in the world. There are 400 million native speakers and 2 billion people who learn it as a second language. This means that there are around 2.4 billion people in the world who speak English. So, because many people use English, technology also adapts to using English. The same goes for some other aspects.
Fifth, now we will look at it in terms of the entertainment world and of course the current generation, especially the Z Generation, who often play social media. This is one of the coolest and most fun reasons for me to learn English is because English is the language spoken in some of Hollywood’s big film industries. And with us mastering English, it means that we are no longer dependent on the subtitles of the film. So, we just need to watch it quietly without reading the subtitles which of course makes us uncomfortable. And also, because my hobby is watching YouTube and I very often watch YouTube videos that use English so that if I master English then I can comfortably watch videos without using subtitles. And in this current generation, especially the Z generation, many social media use English, such as Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook. If we already understand and master English, it will be very easy for us to take advantage of social media, because now social media has many benefits such as opening our horizons to a wider world, getting to know issues that occur outside and internationally, and certainly makes us more and more up to date with the events around us and our daily environment.
Sixth and last, I will discuss in the perspective of the business world. Although China and the United States are among the leaders in business innovation, trade, as well as world economic development, English is still spoken in China and the United States in these fields. In conclusion, if we can use the language of the world, it means that half of the world can be grasped. English is an international language used in communication, especially in the business world, one example is communication in the business where the introduction must use English. Therefore, to enter a business and or economic activity, we will be highly required to master English, especially for businesses that have activities in dealing with foreign companies and companies from other countries.
Finally, we come to the end of my article. I will conclude about why English is very important for our future, and also about why English as a second language will be one of the success factors in the future. The reasons why English is very important for the future and a factor for our success include: First, English is the language of the International Union and is used most often by foreign language speakers around the world. Second, English is the language of science and is widely used in education. The third is because English can open the opportunity for an individual to be free from social discrimination such as differences in ethnicity, skin color, background, and even religion. And fourth in terms of technology, currently, all the latest technology gadgets and devices use English as the main language and provide instructions for users. Fifth in the entertainment world, English is widely used in big Hollywood films and is also widely used on social media. The sixth and last, in the business world many developed and large countries use English in carrying out economic activities. Okay, that’s all I can say, thank you very much.
